Whether it’s a freelance copywriting business or an eCommerce store, it seems almost everyone is starting a side hustle these days. But who wakes up one morning and thinks “I’m going to start selling sex toys?”
Well, it wasn’t quite that spontaneous. My partner Steve and I decided we wanted to start a business together, and I’ve been writing about sex and relationships for years, so moving into sex toys just seemed like a logical step.
But we wanted to do something a little different than your average online adult store.
Welcome to Sneak Peak
There’s a plethora of sex toy stores online. The market is big and competitive, just like most eCommerce industries to be fair. But how do you know which ones are any good? What products should you choose? And who can you trust?
In a world where sex toys are still stigmatised, and most people are afraid to admit they own one, it can be difficult to know where to go for answers – or who to ask. The last thing anyone wants to do is ask their colleague over lunch what they think of the Lelo Gigi 2 and whether the vibration is good value for money.
That’s where we come in. We’re not afraid to tell you that the day the Gigi 2 arrived in the mail, I orgasmed three times in 20 minutes. Sounds great, right? It is! But I’ll also tell you that the motor is getting louder each year, so it’s worth keeping that in mind for anyone living in tight quarters.
We’re starting Sneak Peak because we want to build an honest community. We want to share our stories, show people the benefits of sex toys – both physical and mental – and make sure you buy ones that are right for you. Steve adds we’d also like to make some cold hard cash, but that’s what side hustles are all about, right?
So who are we?
I’m Cass, Marketing Director and Co-Founder of Sneak Peak. I handle all things words. My day job is content marketing, and I’ve been writing articles about relationships for years.
My partner is Steve, Managing Director and Co-Founder. Currently working in sales, and with a background in law, he knows business. And he’s not bad in the sack, either 😉
We’ve been together four and a half years, and we’re getting married in December. I’m sure we’ll write about that down the track – who knows what products we’ll review after that!
How did our family and friends take the news?
Most people we’ve told about Sneak Peak have been genuinely happy for us. Some have even wanted to contribute, something we want to actively encourage. It goes to show you that a community like this is just what the doctor ordered!
The only person so far that has been uncomfortable with the idea has been my mum. In fact her words were something along the lines of, “I’m happy for you Cass, but I don’t want to know.” Sorry mum! 😛
What does the future hold?
Everyone knows that intimacy is key to a healthy relationship. For many people, that includes sex. But if you’re not getting what you need – and you don’t know how to ask for it – it can be difficult to build that intimacy. Trust me, I’ve been there.
At Sneak Peak, we want to help change that. It’s time to start breaking down barriers. We want to flip gender and sexuality norms and encourage people to have the sex of their lives. Like you wouldn’t believe.
